[NEWS] The Consultation on health financing options for Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is currently facing the effects of a prolonged global pandemic and an unprecedented economic crisis. These dual health system shocks have had a significant impact on the health service delivery in the country. To support the process of identifying potential reform options for the health system, WHO Country Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, other UN agencies and Development Partners, have conducted a series of analytical activities since late 2022 including study visit to Thailand.
During 27-28 March 2023, WHO Country Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka organize the Consultation on health financing options for Sri Lanka. The Consultation aims to provide the platform to bring together all relevant local stakeholders at national and sub-national levels and international experts on health economics and financing for detailed discussions and consensus building on potential interventions applicable to Sri Lanka.
Dr.Viroj Tangcharoensathien and Dr.Warisa Panichkriangkrai from the International Health Policy Program (IHPP), Ministry of Public Health, Thailand were invited to join the Conference to share Thailand’s experience. One of the key issues which was highlighted through the results was the requirement for consideration of reform options in terms of how health is financed in the country.
